Fighting wrinkles and blemishes at the same time? Really?

Q. Why am I breaking out and fighting off wrinkles at the same time?

A. Oh the dreaded double whammy!! It is more common to experience this issue than you may think, even if you didn't experience breakouts as a teenager.  In  a very similar way, the same hormonal factors that influence teen acne, can trigger breakouts as an adult do to hormonal changes. As an adult the way we approach treating these breakouts may be different, and for good reasons.
Many products geared to treating acne can be very drying. Maturing skin requires adequate moisture to fight changes in texture and wrinkling, and treating it with drying, stripping chemicals will only produce more oil.
Some exceptional ingredients to look for are tea tree oil, white willow bark, tamanu oil, and apple cider vinegar.

Topical treatments are only one part of the equation, however. They are a strong part, but lifestyle and dietary changes are also important. Proper supplementation is also a helpful piece in working on the internal environment, where changes need to begin.

Delicious summer eating

There is just something about the fresh fruits and vegetables of summer isn't there?

Each season affords us an opportunity to take advantage of the best of what nature has to offer. I for one feel invigorated by the warmth and the sun, and it inspires me to not only get out and enjoy exercise in the beautiful weather, but to fully immerse myself in eating healthy.

Sounds like a great plan until I get to a picnic with hamburgers on the grill and potato salad in the refrigerator. Healthy eating plan, sunk. The association with summer and these delightfully unhealthy choices are just as much a part of summer fun as watermelon and berries. So what to do?

BALANCE. STOP FEELING GUILTY. SET HEALTHY LIMITS.

All of those things help us live in harmony in our everyday lives as well as in our eating habits.
Have a burger if you really love them. Put lots of lettuce, tomatoes and onions on it. Make sure to balance it with lots of healthy choices too. When doing that you can eliminate the guilt. Guilt provokes feelings which increase lack of satisfaction among other things, which can in the end, lead to eating more. What good is potato salad if it comes with a side of guilt? Instead, think about portion size and setting limits on how often you indulge. Treating ourselves well and with kindness can be found in moderation, good choices, and creating an inner understanding of our goals and aspirations. Especially with our food choices.

Wishing you a summer of health,

Charcoal...Not Just For Grillin'

Charcoal is gaining popularity in the beauty industry, but it has been used for hundreds of years to detox and quite literally pull toxins from the body. It is an excellent purifying agent. This makes activated charcoal an ideal addition to skincare, as it cleans the skin of not only dirt, but can deeply rid the skin of toxins.

Why does your skin need this? Quite simply, our skin is our largest eliminatory organ. It serves not only to hold our body together, but to flush toxins from the deepest level of our fat cells through perspiration. It also acts as a barrier to prevent pollutants, dirt, and bacteria from entering our bodies. Keeping our skin clean and breathing is essential for healthy skin.
